“We rest on the rock, and know it to be rock, rooted in the very heart of the world.”
-Charles Johnston’s commentary on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
Deep Rooted is a blog about living in a simple, natural, and peaceful way, in harmony with the earth and its cycles. It is written especially for people who live in urban environments and want to become more closely aligned with the rhythms of nature. It draws from my explorations of yogic, Ayurvedic, and western herbalist approaches to wellness and spiritual cultivation.
I’m Maggie Russell-Ciardi, a long-time resident of New York City and a nature lover. I practice and teach ashtanga yoga, chant and play harmonium, study yoga philosophy and Ayurveda, and make plant-based medicines. And I’m a mama to a young son, Kai, born naturally in a birthing tub in my tenement apartment.
