“We rest on the rock, and know it to be rock, rooted in the very heart of the world.”
-Charles Johnston’s commentary on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
Deep Rooted is a blog about living in a simple, natural, and peaceful way, in harmony with the earth and its cycles. It is written especially for people who live in urban environments and want to become more closely aligned with the rhythms of nature. It draws from my explorations of yogic, Ayurvedic, and western herbalist approaches to wellness and spiritual cultivation.
I’m Maggie Russell-Ciardi. I live in New York City and am embracing the challenge of living a natural lifestyle in an urban environment. I practice and teach ashtanga yoga, chant and play harmonium, study yoga philosophy and Ayurveda, and make plant-based medicines. I spend as much time as I can in nature. And I’m a mama to a baby boy, Kai, born naturally in a birthing tub in my tenement apartment. Before transitioning to full-time parenting, I spent almost twenty years doing social justice work with various non-profit organizations in New York City. If you have questions, comments, or topics you’d like there to be blog posts about, email me at deeprootednyc at gmail dot com. You can also follow Deep Rooted on Instagram, deeprootednyc. And if you’d like to come to one of my yoga classes, I normally teach on Sundays at 5 pm and 6:30 pm, and Mondays at 4:15 pm, 6:00 pm, and 7:30 pm at New Vibe Yoga.
